Internet Marketers Need Indented Listings

Landing on the top search results of Google is every internet marketer's goal but getting indented lists as well is a webmaster's dream. Indented lists appear as two lists (also known as double listings): a regular search result on the top, followed by a second result that's indented inward.

Search engines constantly go around the Web, view fresh content uploaded everyday and rank these accordingly. When they spot two or more articles in one website that pertain to the same topic or carry the same keywords, these search engines respond by displaying the most relevant result first, followed by the linked pages.

Getting multiple indented lists on the top 10 results of search engines is much sought after because these can significantly increase the number of clicks and visitors on your site. And there's a technique for achieving this.

Here are the things you need to get indented listings:

One website
Search engines only display indented lists of two or more pages coming from the same website. Wordpress themes are supported by a robust content management system that takes care of most of the SEO work for you. You'll want something like that as well. You can also get a Wordpress SEO plug-in to automatically display related posts in your webpage.

Quality content
Basic SEO techniques such as posting quality SEO content still apply here. You'll need some great articles with the right keywords that are optimized for search engines. You can write quality content following expert techniques or have a SEO writer do this for you.

Internal links
Make it a habit to keep a list of article titles and their corresponding URLs or links in a separate document file. Update this every time you post a new article or content. As you build your article database, link the same keywords in two or more articles using their URLs. Linking many articles using the same keywords will result in deep linking and increase your site's chances of getting indented listings. If you're using Wordpress, there's a plug-in that you can add which automatically generates related links after each post and links keywords among different articles for you.

Websites that have accumulated a huge article database can use the same internal linking technique for indented listings. Review previous content and replace some keywords to match those found in your fresh batch of articles. Link these articles as well to get multiple indented listings.

It's not enough however for an internet marketer to land on the top search results and get double or even multiple indented lists of your web pages. You can only begin to see profits grow as well if you use killer copywriting techniques in your pages. Use it to boost traffic and conversions for affiliate selling.

Have you considered that your membership site could be compromised by an online hacker? Could they be redirecting your site? Could they be stealing valuable information and content?

Unfortunately, the answer is yes it's possible, and it's even more likely if you don't protect your blog.

Currently, there are over 22 million installations of WordPress around the world. That's equal to the amount of people in Australia, to give you an idea of numbers. With such a large amount of users, it's no wonder that hackers view this group as such a tempting target.

There are two forms that WordPress hackers usually come in. Either they'll steal your data (such as membership lists & e-mails for spamming) or alter your site in an unwanted way. This could include changing the content of your site, modifying it so visitors will be infected with malicious software, or simply redirecting your domain to another site.

Of course, many hackers can and will do a combination of attacks if possible.

So, what can you do to save your members and yourself from hacking attacks? While no method will completely protect you from hackers, some simple steps can be taken that will greatly reduce your chances and make it more difficult for them.

In a future article, I'll describe more sophisticated ways to protect your blog but the methods below, while simple, are very effective in stopping most attacks.

The quickest and easiest step is to pick an uncommon username and password. The most popular (and easily guessed) passwords are simple strings of numbers (123456). The word "Password" itself is another common choice. You want to select a password with letters AND numbers.

Taking a memorable sentence or phrase and turning it into a password is a great trick. For example, "The quick brown fox jumped over the lazy dog" could become "tqbfjotld". Add the year of your birth at the end if you like so you'll get "tqbfjotld1972". Nobody's going to guess that password! The sentence is easy to remember but if you have to, you can always write down the sentence since it's only a clue to your password and someone miles away from you isn't going to see it.

Also, don't forget to change it regularly. As for the username, "admin" is the most common choice for this option. If you've already picked it (or something easily guessed), ask your hosting company how you can get it changed. You may have a control panel that will allow you to change it easily. Even something simple like "Mary1972" is better than "admin".

Backing up your WordPress database is another good idea. Now, this option won't necessarily keep the hackers out of your blog but it will give you a back up plan if your site is altered. After all you wouldn't want to trust the data after it's been compromised. Another option is to contact your hosting company and ask them to revert your site to how it was before the attack if you don't have a backup. A charge may occur for this service, depending on your hosting company, but it is an option.

The last suggestion involves your own computer. All the security measures you have for your WordPress blog, won't matter if you're infected with a keylogger (a program to copy keystrokes) or similar virus. Make sure to run a virus scan every day. Schedule it for when you're sleeping if you like. If you don't have a virus scanner, there are plenty of good free ones out there. Grisoft's AVG, Alwil's Avast, and Avira's AntiVir Personal are all great choices. You can even go to Trendmicro.com and use their free online anti-virus scanner as well.
